The Portsmouth Poet Laureate Program (PPLP) & City of Portsmouth’s Arts and Cultural Commission are launching the Public Poetry Project in collaboration with storefronts and businesses. To celebrate National Poetry Month, poems will be displayed for the month of April, submitted by local and aspiring poets of all ages. And you can take part in this new project! If you are interested in participating, either by hosting a poem in your shop windows or submitting original poetry of your own, please reach out to PPLP at nhpplp@gmail.com.
We invite you to submit your poetry by sending up to two poems per poet. Poems should be limited to one page, able to fit on 8.5 x 11” portrait paper at 18pt font, and be appropriate for all ages (no heavy adult themes). Poems centered around Portsmouth landscapes and details are especially welcome. Previously published work and new work are allowed, as long as you hold the rights.
The deadline to submit poems is March 16, 2026. Please send your poems as either a doc or pdf file to nhpplp@gmail.com. If you have a business or storefront in Portsmouth and would like to display work, please reach out! Thank you for participating in this exciting new project!
