Kimberly Cloutier Green. With a formal Proclamation issued by Portsmouth Mayor Eric Spear and read by Assistant Mayor Bob Lister, Kimberly was introduced as Portsmouth’s Ninth Poet Laureate at City Hall on April 15th, 2013.

Kimberly Cloutier Green is a poet, collaborating artist, and workshop leader living in Kittery Point, Maine. She is a first-place prize winner in the national Aldrich Poetry Prize; her chapbook, What Becomes of Words, was selected for publication by Alice Quinn, then editor of The New Yorker. A Pushcart Prize nominee, her poems have been published in several literary journals.

She was selected in 2005 for the Maine Community Foundation’s Martin Dibner Fellowship in Poetry, and she is a MacDowell Colony Fellow. Her first full-length collection of poems, The Next Hunger, was released in April 2013 by Bauhan Publishing/UPNE.

Kimberly is a longtime member and occasional preacher at South Church Unitarian Universalist, Kimberly is a spiritual director and retreat leader affiliated with Bethany House of Prayer in Arlington, MA.

A longtime collaborator with visual and sound artists, Kimberly has produced and participated in several cross-genre shows in the Seacoast, including “Unprisoning,” a major installation event at Buoy Gallery/Kittery in 2011.

Kimberly’s Poet Laureate project for the City of Portsmouth involved 100 Creation Circle participants – poets, artists, musicians, etc., who met in the Seacoast area and farther afield. Their creative work culminated in the weekend-long Nancy Moore Hill Poetry Celebration with readings and performances by Creation Circle participants at several locations throughout the city. The final evening featured poets Mekeel McBride, Cyrus Cassells, Stephen Kuusisto in a public interview and reading.

Together with Lee Perkins, Director of Rice Library in Kittery, Kimberly founded and hosts the annual Rice Pudding Poetry Series, which is modeled on Maine Poet Laureate Wes McNair’s state project. She also produces and hosts Kittery’s annual Mangion Poetry Celebration, which has featured poets Stuart Kestenbaum, Desiree Alvarez, Charles Simic and Catherine Barnett.
