Mimi White sharing and teaching poetry

Mimi is the author of two collections of poetry: Into The Darkness We Go and The Singed Horizon, which was selected by Robert Creeley as the recipient of the 2000 Philbrick Poetry Award.
Read some of Mimi White's poetry.

Read Katherine Towler's Introduction
to the Mayor and City Council of Portsmouth:

"It is my honor and privilege to introduce Mimi White, our new Poet Laureate.   Mimi is the author
of two poetry chapbooks and has published her work in more than 20 national journals, including
Poetry, The Harvard Review, West Branch and Rivendell.   Her book, The Singed Horizon, was selected by poet Robert Creeley for the Philbrook Poetry Award.  In choosing Mimi’s book for the award, Robert Creeley said, “These are poems of a deceptive quiet and simplicity . . .  It is an old
human story, told here with great power and an art that is altogether equal to its task.”   In addition
to her accomplishments as a poet, Mimi has worked for many years as a writer-in-residence in
schools throughout the Seacoast and the state.  She has brought her passionate love for poetry
to those in nursing homes and prisons, and has inspired countless young students to believe in
the power of their own words.  Her work in the community has included many collaborations with
visual artists and theater artists and has touched people of all ages and backgrounds.   I can think
of no one more fitting to serve as our new Poet Laureate.  Mimi’s devotion to both poetry and to
the Seacoast community have already enriched the lives of many of us.  She will further enrich
he Portsmouth community in her role as Poet Laureate.

I am proud to present a gifted poet and a great friend of the arts . . .  Mimi White.
