Mondays at Skimmilk: 30 Years of Writers at Work
On Tuesday, June 12, 2007, a special screening of Ken Browne's documentary "Mondays at Skimmilk" was shown at the Portsmouth Public Library. After the film, members of the Skimmilk workshops held a panel discussion, sharing their memories of the farm and its owner, Jean Pedrick, who passed away late in the summer of 2006.

September 8-29, Manchester: Cosponsors AROHO and Morgan Stanley Smith Barney will present a free four-week seminar to help female writers and artists gauge their finances when it comes to their creative life. Financial advisor Sally Boyle, from Morgan Stanley Smith Barney, will guide participants through 10 critical steps toward a holistic financial review. September 9, Bristol: Featured poet Patricia Fargnoli, whose recent collection Then, Something is a finalist for the 2010 Foreword Book of the Year Award, will read at the Mill Fudge Factory. September 9, Derry:  Award-winning poet Wesley McNair is featured reader at the Frost Farm’s Hyla Brook Reading Series along with Hyla Brook Poet Robert W. Crawford.  The Series takes place at its summer home at the Robert Frost Farm, 122 Rockingham Rd (Rt 28).  The program begins at 6:30pm and concludes with an Open Mic from 7:30-8:30pm.   • Monday, Sept. 6 7 p.m.: Local Authors Night with Chuck Galle and Wayne W. Whicher. Galle will read from "Stories I Never Told My Daughter." Whicher will read from "Sunset over the Hermes."
  • Friday, Sept. 10 at 7 p.m.: RiverRun Bookstore will hold a reading and signing with National Book Award-winning author Jonathan Franzen, author of "The Corrections," at South Church in Portsmouth. The events is free and open to the public, but those who wish to meet the author and get their book personalized must pre-purchase the author's new books and get a backstage pass.   • Sunday, Oct. 17 at 4 p.m.: RiverRun Bookstore will hold a reading and signing with bestselling author Bill Bryson at South Church, Portsmouth. Bryson's bestselling books include "A Walk in the Woods," "Notes from a Small Island," "In a Sunburned Country," "Bryson's Dictionary of Troublesome Words," "A Short History of Nearly Everything," which earned him the 2004 Aventis Prize, and "The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid." Event is free, open to public, but those who wish to meet author and get book personalized must pre-purchase author's new books and get backstage pass. October 14, Concord: Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Ted Kooser is the premiere winner of the Hall-Kenyon Prize in American Poetry, as awarded by the New Hampshire Writers' Project. Retired editor of the Concord Monitor Mike Pride will introduce Kooser and present the award at the Concord City Auditorium. More information about tickets will be posted as it becomes available.
